Crazy Red - Book One in the Jackson Sugar Series - Now available on Kindle!

June 13, 2014

I am happy and proud to announce the debut of my first novel, CRAZY RED, today on Kindle. Writing the Jackson Sugar Series (Crazy Red is Book One) has been a true labor of love, as I've been working on it on and off for nearly a decade.

What's the book about?

Crazy Red is the story of one young woman's quest to obtain the "normal" life she sees all around her. She wants to live in a home where people care about one another, talk together, take meals together, and value one another. She wants friends to talk with, and laugh with, and make her feel like she matters.

In short, she wants to love, and be loved, in return. And none of that's happening at her house-except on  the small black and white TV she watches alone in her windowless bedroom.
As a child, Maggie knew the families she saw on television weren't real, but she came to believe they had to be more authentic than the cold, humorless home in which she was being raised by a mother who barely acknowledged her. But she would come to miss those days, for as Maggie transformed into a young woman, her mother Sybil changed as well, becoming an ill-tempered tyrant with a single-minded determination to preserve her daughter's virtue, and the family's good name, at any cost.

Meeting Will at the neighborhood church, (in whose tenets Maggie has little belief), changes everything, as in time, the promise of his love finally puts into Maggie's reach the happiness she's longed for.

But getting it won't be easy.

Between dodging Sybil's violent assaults, killer tornadoes, hungry fire ants, and having Will being blackmailed into marching off to war, Maggie's got her hands full simply surviving. Or she thinks she has, until a chance encounter with Edmond Jackson, an attractive, charming, and sadistic drug-trafficker who becomes obsessed with making our red-haired virgin his wife.

Set in the late 1960's South, Maggie's story is pure melodrama.
It's both smart and absurd, darkly humorous, intensely sexy, and occasionally profane.  And if you enjoy it enough to want more Maggie, then look for Book Two, Wanted Dead, scheduled to be released later this summer.

At over 126,00 words, and with 13 illustrations by actor and artist Victoria Skye Cleveland, (who also graces the cover as Maggie), you can add Crazy Red to your summer reading list for the cost of a drive-thru meal. And if you prefer real books, the paperback (309 pages)will be available on Amazon before the end of the month.
